Avfall Sør is the waste management company responsible for the collection and treatment of waste from households in the municipalities of Kristiansand and Vennesla. Waste management is not carried out equally throughout the country. Therefore, it is important to familiarize yourself with the recycling scheme that applies in the municipality where you currently live and study.

Waste and recycling guide for students in Kristiansand and Vennesla

On this page, we have collected useful information about how to sort and deliver your waste in Kristiansand and Vennesla.

The information  is relevant for students residing in student housing units belonging to The Student Association in Agder (SiA) or renting a room/apartment in private ownership. If you own the residence yourself, please contact our customer service centre for information and advice.

How to sort your waste at home

This can be thrown in the underground waste containers or waste bins at your home:

You don’t need to worry about the collection day for waste when using underground waste containers. Waste collectors empty these as needed.

  • Underground waste containers that belong to SiA student housing units are reserved for SiA residents and should not be used by others.
  • Other underground waste containers require an electronic key fob to open the chute doors. You can obtain the key fob from the landlord or Avfall Sør when you move in and/or take over the residence.

AVOID LITTERING! Waste should not be placed next to the container. If it’s full or not working – please contact Avfall Sør (+47) 38 17 70 70 so that we can fix it. This way, we avoid pollution caused by birds, animals, weather, and wind spreading waste and pollutants.

  • Sharing access is done on the customer portal «Min side», and once done, you will receive an SMS that needs to be confirmed.

  • Your visits are registered on the landlord’s property.

If you own the residence, you automatically gain access to Min side to retrieve and manage your access ID.
PLEASE NOTE! The customer portal is only available in Norwegian.

Where should it be sorted?

Sorting waste is important for the environment. Better sorting allows us to recycle more of your waste, creating new products again and again.
